Through our Information and Feedback sessions, many future residents told us they value opportunities for movement, connection, and wellbeing. This insight is helping us shape services and spaces that work for a wide range of preferences.

We often get asked about the costs incurred and financial models of retirement living communities. During a cost-of-living crisis, we understand that this would be at the forefront of mind for many of you. To provide clarity and peace of mind, we’ve gathered key information about the financial aspects of retirement living. 

At Westering North Adelaide, we intend to create a community of care dedicated to supporting you at every stage, ensuring that you have the utmost confidence in your choice, for your retirement. 

We will prioritise your wellbeing, physically and financially by providing clear information and personalised support for these large decisions. We know that there are many confusing fees and financial considerations to consider in your move to retirement, to learn more about what you can expect, see Part F below. 

We encourage you to conduct your own research and seek personalised financial advice to assess your specific circumstances regarding your options for retirement living. However, our dedicated team is available to answer any questions you may have and assist you in understanding the financial implications of your move into Westering North Adelaide.

During our Information and Feedback Sessions we asked for your input into extra services that will help you make the most of all aspects of your retirement. The provision of these services will help you live with ease, without compromising your independence. 

The services for consideration range from extra cleaning to health and wellbeing services, all ensuring that your personal maintenance responsibilities are left to the absolute minimum. It is the absence of these responsibilities that we believe allow for future residents of Westering North Adelaide to fully enjoy the social benefits of a fulfilling retirement. 

Home maintenance and cleaning specifically is a time-consuming task for many, often taking away from spare time that can be applied to more socially enriching, leisure activities. 

Additionally, the implementation of transportation services for residents who don’t have their own personal vehicles, will ensure ease of access to wherever you need to go.

In December, we submitted our Development Application for the first stage of the master plan –  Westering Carter Residences in Childers Street, and in January, the public notification period officially began. This was an important milestone, as it opened the doors for the local community to share their feedback and thoughts on the development. Many North Adelaidian residents expressed their support for the project.

The next step in the progression of the master plan was a submission to the State Commission Assessment Panel (SCAP) meeting, which we attended on 14 May. Unfortunately, planning approval for the premium retirement apartments was not granted.

We know we will have a disappointed community, with more than 330 seniors having registered their interest in the development, including you. 
 
We are incredibly proud of what this development would bring to the North Adelaide area. The proposed apartments not only offered a vibrant community and a premium well-being lifestyle for residents, but with the shortage of housing in the state, we believe this offering would have provided best-practice housing for ageing in place, while releasing traditional housing back into the market.

While we are disappointed with this outcome, we are still committed to the precinct master plan and our vision of renewal, innovation, community, safety, care, well-being and support in the Westering community.

We will be reviewing and considering our options moving forward and will keep you informed.

On Wednesday October 30, we hosted Information and Feedback Sessions for our planned Westering North Adelaide precinct, where potential residents shared their thoughts, ideas, and insights on the designs, services, features, and amenities that will shape this new premium retirement living development and enable them to age in place and live their best life.

The turnout was fantastic, with the sessions filled with engaged and very interested attendees. Chris Stewart, Helping Hand’s CEO, shared valuable insights into Helping Hand’s journey and the holistic approach we are taking to meet the diverse needs of the local community within North Adelaide.
