For more than 70 years, Westering has been part of the North Adelaide community. Today, that legacy continues in a beautifully refurbished home where you can feel supported, connected and, above all, that you belong.

“Westering” – Opened 9 May 1954
In 1953, Reverend Arthur Strange set out to raise enough money to purchase a building in North Adelaide. His vision became a reality the following year, when the building opened its doors as Westering, providing a home for 18 women in the care of Helping Hand.
More than 70 years later, the spirit behind that original vision remains at the heart of Westering.
As the only residential aged care home within the City of Adelaide, Westering has a special place in the community. Today, it is being reimagined for future generations, honouring the generosity and commitment of the people who helped create it while ensuring people can continue to call North Adelaide home as their care needs change.

For David, moving to Westering Rotary House has been a new chapter in a familiar place. Having previously lived in our retirement living units on Buxton Street, David has been able to remain living in the North Adelaide community he knows and loves. An avid cinema goer, David shares his experience of the move and what life is like in his new home.
For Chris and Ian, moving into Westering Rotary House has been something they have been able to do together. Finding comfort in making the transition to residential care side by side, they’ve embraced the freedom to continue doing what they love and staying connected to the things that make them who they are.
For Anna, moving to Rotary House meant staying connected to the community she already knew and loved. Having lived in North Adelaide before moving in, she was able to maintain the social connections, activities and routines that were important to her.
“My preference was to stay in the community that I was familiar with. I like it here. This is the only place for me.”
Anna still enjoys her Pilates class, plays Bridge and attends her book club. Her family and friends continue to visit, and she has even been able to maintain her regular shopping outings.
“I still go to my Pilates class on Melbourne Street, I play Bridge and I go to my Book Club. I really haven’t had to change my social life.”

For Anna, it’s not about leaving her life behind, it’s about continuing to live it, in a community where she feels she belongs.
